Structural Study on Synthesis of Carbon Nanotubes Using Caster Oil by the Vertical Spray Pyrolysis Method

ABSTRACT

Carbon nanotubes can have di ? erent individual structures, morphologies and properties, as well as di ? erent collective arrangements and emerging properties, all of which are determined by the method of preparation and further processing. Hence, a wide variety of synthetic methods have been developed to produce the desired materials and properties for speci?c scienti?c studies or technological applications. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been synthesized by ferrocenecatalyzed pyrolysis of caster oil. The influences of the experimental conditions on the morphology and microstructure of the product have been analyzed. To find the proper temperature for synthesis of CNTs, the experiment was performed in a temperature range from 850C. From content variation of ferrocene and thiophene as the catalyst, morphological change of carbon nanotubes has been observed. Also, the nanotube sample was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and Fourier Transform Infra Red spectroscopy.
